"a lot’s changed over the years, but our values haven’t"

Mark Spring, dtr Managing Director

Way back when black and white televisions were first launched in New Zealand, they were around the same price as a new car. And everyone wanted one. That’s when a forward thinking businessman named Stan Pemberton had a vision. To make televisions more accessible, by renting them, on affordable weekly payments. Stan opened the doors of Dominion Television Services in Howick, back in 1962.

From those humble beginnings emerged dtr. And while black and white televisions and renting appliances has become a thing of the past, Stan’s vision of making things accessible to everyday kiwis is at the heart of what dtr stands for today.

Local companies who’ve been around for as long as we have, don’t achieve that without constantly adapting and evolving to meet customer needs.

Seeing the effect of the COVID-19 Pandemic on our customers, and their communities, has provided a natural trigger for us to look at everything we’re doing.

To remain relevant in today’s retail market, it’s not a ‘one size fits all’. So, by keeping true to our values of fairness and transparency, we’re tailoring interest rates for every individual customer. Providing better value and flexibility in payment options, and making it easier to do business with us online.

But it doesn’t stop there. We’re putting our money where our mouth is, and for the first time in our history, introducing a Price Match Promise. Find a lower normal retail price on any item in-stock locally, and we’ll match it!

In short, we’re making some changes. For good.

rates from 9.95% p.a. – 29.95% p.a. variable depending on your circumstances

“everyone deserves a fair go, respect and a moment of brightness. we’ll be fair and try our best. you’re always welcome at dtr”.

These are the values we live by as a company.
And they’re written on the wall of every branch.
